GOOD to EAT

Bringing beautiful beef to families since 2003

-   ABOUT US  -

Listening to the radio one day I was horrified to hear foodie expert Rosemary Stanton talk about the hormones and antibiotics used to breed the beef we eat.

I knew there was a concern about hormones used in chicken but never beef. After talking to more people about this I discovered that the beautiful steers we were breeding would go off to a feedlot, have a hormone pellet put behind one ear, an antibiotic one put behind the other, then be fed on high starch grains to build up lots of fat - bad fats! The antibiotics are to prevent the animal from dying due to changing their diet from grass to grain. All while standing around on cement in their own filth.

Did you know cows are naturally very clean animals!

It was then that I decided that my children and my friends would enjoy the natural benefits of eating our own animals. I overcame the horror of sending them to the abattoir, they are cattle and if they didn't end up there, we wouldn't have them. We photograph them the day they are born and they are cared for gently and humanely.

They only ever eat grass or the hay we make ourselves, naturally and organically on the banks of the Williams River at Fosterton.

Remember driving past farm gates and seeing barrows of fruit and veges out for sale? It's a bit hard to leave fresh beef at our gate and Fosterton Road isn't very busy so I bring our farmgate to you.

So Fosterton Farmgate was born!
